Aikido and Zen 2025
September 24 - 28, 2025
What does it mean to be openly, absorbingly receptive, and still stay centered and stable? What mental and physical postures allow us to listen fully with body and mind? How do we meet conditions as they arise without hindrance, but with presence, clarity, wisdom, and compassion? How do both Aikido and Zen practice help us develop the ability to notice when we are “off center,” come back into accord, and respond in a helpful way?
In this year’s Aikido and Zen Seminar, we will focus on these questions and our experience practicing with them—as we sit in mediation, as we engage in Aikido keiko, as we work together, and as we share meals and speak with each other.
The format includes morning and evening zazen, Aikido keiko, and taking part in community life at the Crestone Mountain Zen Center. There is also space in the schedule for walks, hikes, visits to notable sites on the mountain, and naps! While some familiarity with aikido and with zen meditation (or any other form of meditation) is helpful, previous experience is not a requirement.
The seminar will begin Wednesday evening, September 24th, and end after brunch on Sunday, September 28th. Please join us for this weekend of practice and exploration.
